With the many demands of today’s society, more and more parents are challenged with the best way to raise their children. There is a constant demand for parenting classes and although our community has parenting classes available, few of them are approaching it from a values-based perspective. Kamalama is an integration of Hawaiian cultural values, knowledge and practices with appropriate and supportive Western knowledge. Attendees will learn how Kamalama has helped Native Hawaiian families manage through the CWS system in a way that honors their ancestral knowledge while appreciating western parenting practices that align with their cultural beliefs that lead to a code of conduct called Pono, to be morally correct.
